Hello Fr. Mike, Pat and Lois ! Thanks Pat for all the info on St. Mark's ministries and charities, the trade marks of a vibrant Christian Community . The Corona Virus in Haiti seems to be weaker than elsewhere, but the political scene right now is becoming almost unmanageable... nothing of government institutions seems to be working at all ! Electricity is rare all over the country, including the Capital ! ... 2hres here and there of electricity every 2 days .. . Most alarming, over 76 well armed gangs have been identified and are operating in the Capital and elsewhere. Thanks to our power generator, the Foyer has electricity at night and can pump water from our artesian well. Food costs have more than doubled, inflation is at 24 % with an exchange rate of 120 gourdes for 1 US $ ( the worst in over 100 years !!!) . The people are getting hungry and desperate with no jobs nor buying power at all . Last week an elderly homeless man was brought to our clinic for medical care by a good Samaritan. One hour later he died as he was being cared for at the clinic. Cause of death : TB and hunger !!! I've been getting reports like his from other places too... But, thanks to St. Marks faithful and generous support, in spite of the terrible problems caused by the pandemic ( AND THE POLITICS), goals have been reached... more than $ 5,000 monthly budget costs all year !!! The Foyer staff is still working full time, their kids are all in school programs ( thanks to Teach the Children) , the Foyer residents are in better health, are stress free, and not hungry, and Virus free !!! This is all truly amazing ! St. Mark's support is a true life-line of Blessed Hope ! St. Padre Pio used to tell everyone to Pray, Hope ... and don't worry ! SINCERE THANKS FROM ALL OF US AT THE FOYER ! WE ARE WITH YOU WITH CONTINUED PRAYERS FOR CONTINUED GRACES ... WITHOUT WORRY ! Fr. Fred,OMI, Foyer residents and staff
